💥 Lara Croft: Tomb Raider – The Cradle of Life Reviews

Personal Review

Okay, I admit it, I have a soft spot for this movie. Sure, it’s cheesy, and the plot is all over the place, but Angelina Jolie IS Lara Croft! I mean, come on, punching a shark? That’s just pure awesome! I remember seeing this in the theater and just being completely entertained from start to finish. The action scenes were fun, and the locations were incredible. I especially loved the scenes in Santorini. I know it’s not high art, but sometimes you just need a fun action movie, and this delivers in spades.

Professional Reviews

  • IMDB User Review: “Angelina Jolie brings the physicality and presence needed for Lara Croft, but the film overall falls flat with predictable action sequences and a convoluted plot. Jan de Bont’s direction is competent, but doesn’t elevate the material beyond a generic action flick. While the exotic locations are visually appealing, they don’t compensate for the lack of depth and emotional engagement.
  • IMDB User Review: “The movie looks great, with exotic locales and Jolie doing her best with what she’s given. Gerard Butler and Ciarán Hinds are underutilized. The plot is convoluted, makes very little sense and takes itself way too seriously for an action flick, especially one based on a video game. The action is repetitive, uninspired and overblown.
  • IMDB User Review: “As much of an improvement on the first film as this is, there are still flaws. Jolie is excellent as Lara Croft, and there probably isn’t an actress around who would be better cast in the role. The supporting cast is a mixed bag but mostly serviceable. The script, while improving ten-fold on the original, still falls flat on several occasions. A good way to spend 2 hours on a summer afternoon.

Angelina Jolie IS Lara Croft!: Most viewers agree that Angelina Jolie’s portrayal of Lara Croft is the highlight of the film.
