🍿 The Animal: Detailed Plot Synopsis

Marvin’s Dream

Marvin Mange is a kind but clumsy man with a lifelong dream of becoming a police officer, just like his father. Unfortunately, he lacks the physical prowess and coordination necessary to pass the police academy’s obstacle course. Instead, he works as a trainee in the evidence room, constantly ridiculed by Sergeant Sisk.

The Animal Scene 1

The Accident and Transformation

While covering the station for a softball game, Marvin responds to a robbery call and gets into a horrific car accident while trying to avoid hitting a seal. Presumed dead, he’s secretly rescued by Dr. Wilder, a mad scientist who rebuilds Marvin using animal organs. Marvin wakes up with enhanced senses, strength, and agility, believing it’s due to a late-night TV purchase of ‘Badger Milk’.

The Animal Scene 2

Supercop and Animal Instincts

Marvin uses his newfound abilities to become a supercop, solving crimes with his animal-like senses, and attracting the attention of Rianna, an animal shelter owner. However, his animal instincts begin to take over, leading to embarrassing and chaotic situations. He struggles to maintain his civilized facade while battling urges to chase cats, eat out of garbage cans, and even mate with goats.

The Animal Scene 3

Unraveling the Truth

As Marvin’s behavior becomes more erratic, Dr. Wilder reveals the truth about the animal organ transplants, warning that Marvin’s instincts will become uncontrollable. Meanwhile, reports of animal attacks in the area raise suspicions. Marvin is eventually fired after a disastrous display at the Mayor’s party, but then reinstated after rescuing the Mayor’s son from drowning, utilizing his newfound seal and dolphin-like abilities.

It was a fun watch when I didn’t want to think, and sometimes, that’s all I need from a movie.

Professional Reviews

  • FilmFanatic Monthly: “Schneider throws himself into the physical comedy, but the script lacks bite. The animal antics are occasionally amusing, but the humor is often juvenile. The movie as a whole struggles to rise above its low-brow premise. While fans of Schneider’s particular brand of comedy may find something to enjoy, others may find it too predictable and uninspired.
  • Comedy Central Reviews: “While the setup is promising, the execution is uneven. Some jokes land, others fall flat. Colleen Haskell is charming, but the film fails to capitalize on her potential. The ‘animal instincts’ gags wear thin quickly, making for a ultimately forgettable comedic experience. If you like mindless entertainment, you could find this enjoyable
