💥 Murder by Numbers Reviews

Personal Review

I remember seeing this movie when it first came out and being totally captivated by Ryan Gosling! His character was so unsettling, yet so charismatic. The whole idea of these two privileged kids thinking they could outsmart the system was chilling. While some of the twists felt a bit forced, I was on the edge of my seat trying to figure out how Cassie would catch them. Definitely worth a watch for the performances alone. The scenes between Gosling and Bullock were especially tense and electric. I found that the backstory of Bullock’s character, as well as the acting of Michael Pitt, didn’t really land for me.

Professional Reviews

  • Variety: “While the film offers intriguing performances from Gosling and Pitt, Bullock’s portrayal of the damaged detective feels somewhat rote, hindering the film’s potential for deeper exploration.
  • New York Times: “Schroeder crafts a suspenseful narrative, boosted by solid performances, though the reliance on familiar thriller tropes keeps ‘Murder by Numbers’ from reaching its full potential.
  • Rolling Stone: “‘Murder by Numbers’ doesn’t rise above familiar thriller conventions, but Gosling and Pitt are mesmerizing as the thrill-kill teens and Bullock injects a needed grit. But at the end of the day, the plot is predictable and the ending is anticlimactic.
