🍿 Eternals: Detailed Plot Synopsis
Arrival on Earth and the Deviants
In 5000 BC, ten Eternals are sent to Earth by the Celestial Arishem to eliminate the Deviants, creatures that threaten intelligent life. These Eternals, each with unique powers, include Ajak, Sersi, Ikaris, Kingo, Sprite, Phastos, Makkari, Druig, Gilgamesh, and Thena. They successfully complete their mission by 1521, but disagreements arise regarding their role in human affairs.

The Emergence and Betrayal
In the present day, Sersi and Sprite, living in London, encounter a Deviant, signaling their return. They reunite with Ikaris and discover that their leader, Ajak, has been killed. Sersi inherits Ajak’s ability to communicate with Arishem, learning the Eternals’ true purpose: to prepare Earth for the ‘Emergence’ of a new Celestial, Tiamut, which will destroy the planet.

Choosing Humanity
The Eternals, having developed a love for humanity, decide to defy their creators and prevent the Emergence. They realize Thena’s mental instability stems from memories of past Emergences. The team plans to use the Uni-Mind, a collective connection, to subdue Tiamut. However, Ikaris reveals his loyalty to Arishem, having known about the Emergence and allowing Ajak to be killed for opposing it.

💥 Eternals Reviews
Personal Review
Okay, so I went into Eternals with pretty high hopes because, you know, Marvel! I was a bit overwhelmed at first because there are SO many new characters. The visuals were stunning, and I really enjoyed the diversity of the cast. The Bollywood scene with Kingo was hilarious and totally unexpected! However, I felt like the story was a bit convoluted, and I didn’t connect with all the characters as much as I wanted to. I left the theatre feeling like I needed to watch it again to fully grasp everything. Still entertaining, but definitely not my favorite Marvel movie. Also, I found myself strangely tearing up when Gilgamesh died protecting Thena. I didn’t expect that at all!

Professional Reviews
- Variety: “Eternals boasts stunning visuals and a diverse cast, but its overly ambitious plot and underdeveloped characters hinder its potential. Director Chloé Zhao’s signature style clashes with the MCU formula, resulting in a film that feels both grandiose and strangely detached.
- The Hollywood Reporter: “While Eternals attempts to explore complex themes of free will and destiny, it ultimately gets bogged down in exposition and lacks a compelling emotional core. The action sequences are well-executed, but the characters fail to resonate, leaving the film feeling somewhat hollow.
- Empire: “Eternals is a visually impressive and ambitious entry in the MCU, but its sprawling cast and intricate storyline make it feel overstuffed. The film struggles to balance its philosophical themes with the demands of a superhero blockbuster, resulting in a somewhat uneven experience.
Audience Reactions
The visuals are stunning, especially the cosmic scenes and the depiction of the Celestials.: Viewers praised the film’s visual effects, diverse cast, and the attempt to explore deeper themes within the superhero genre.
Kumail Nanjiani’s Kingo provides much-needed comedic relief and is a standout character.: Many enjoyed the humor injected by Kingo and the fresh take on superhero characters.
Overall Consensus: Eternals is a visually impressive but narratively uneven entry in the MCU, praised for its diversity and ambition but criticized for its convoluted plot and underdeveloped characters.
