💥 Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F Reviews

Personal Review

Okay, so I went into this with super low expectations, and I was pleasantly surprised. Seeing Eddie back as Axel Foley felt like a warm hug of nostalgia. The soundtrack alone made me smile! The plot is a bit predictable, sure, but the chemistry between Eddie, Judge Reinhold, and John Ashton is what makes it worthwhile. When Serge showed up I actually cheered! It’s not gonna win any awards, but if you’re a fan of the original movies, you’ll have a good time. Plus Kevin Bacon makes a great villian.

Professional Reviews

  • Variety: “While ‘Axel F’ delivers on the nostalgic action and humor fans expect, it struggles to find fresh ground. Eddie Murphy shines, but the plot feels recycled, and the new characters lack the charm of the original cast. A fun, if predictable, ride.
  • The Hollywood Reporter: “Eddie Murphy effortlessly revives Axel Foley, proving his comedic timing is timeless. However, the film relies heavily on nostalgia, overshadowing a weaker storyline and underdeveloped characters. A worthy addition to the franchise, but not a standout.
  • The Guardian: “This belated sequel coasts on Eddie Murphy’s charisma, offering familiar laughs and action. Despite some entertaining moments, it’s a pale imitation of the original, lacking its wit and originality. Ultimately, a forgettable retread.

Audience Reactions

Fans loved seeing the original cast back together, especially the chemistry between Axel, Rosewood, and Taggart.: Nostalgia factor is high; fans appreciate the callbacks to the original movies and the familiar soundtrack.

The new additions to the cast, especially Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Taylour Paige, were praised for their performances.: Enjoyable blend of old and new elements, balancing familiar characters with fresh faces.

Overall Consensus: A fun but flawed return to Beverly Hills, relying heavily on nostalgia while offering a lighthearted action-comedy experience.
