💥 Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers Reviews

Personal Review

As a huge Halloween fan, I have mixed feelings. I was super excited to see where the story of Jamie turning evil would go but they didn’t go anywhere, and while it wasn’t the scariest movie, it was still great. I think the scenes in the Myers house were the best scenes! Dr. Loomis was as crazy as always which was just an interesting performance to behold. It’s definitely not the best movie in the series, but still one worth watching, though.

Professional Reviews

  • IMDb: “Halloween 5 suffers from a rushed production and a weak script. While Danielle Harris and Donald Pleasence deliver solid performances, the film relies too heavily on jump scares and lacks genuine suspense. The introduction of the ‘Man in Black’ adds unnecessary confusion, ultimately making this one of the less memorable entries in the franchise.
  • IMDb: “Mostly dull and low on suspense. Even Dr. Loomis’ character hasn’t got a single interesting thing to say. The script actually ignores the entire climax shot of the previous film, which suggested that Michael’s incontrollable murderous tendencies shifted into young Jamie.
  • JoBlo.com: “Halloween 5 is slightly better than Halloween 4 in the fact that we see a bit more of Micheal and we get a few more gory killing scenes like with the scissors. The movie uses some more creepy scenes like in the barn house and the Myers house.

Audience Reactions

Danielle Harris is great and one of the shining stars of the Halloween franchise.: While flawed, the film has enjoyable moments and is great to watch.

The laundry chute scene is suspenseful.: Good scare scenes.

Overall Consensus: Halloween 5 is a mixed bag, with some suspenseful moments and solid performances overshadowed by a weak plot and goofy elements.

🛠️ Behind the Scenes

  • “The shot of Mikey (Jonathan Chapin) quivering on the ground was shortened to avoid an ‘X’ rating.”
  • “Donald Pleasence was very vocal about his dissatisfaction with the story and with the way director Dominique Othenin-Girard was trying to get him to play Dr Loomis as totally heavy and overbearing.”
  • “The opening shamelessly rips off BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN (1935) with Michael Myers shown to have survived his apparent demise at the end of the previous film”
