💥 Rock the Kasbah Reviews
Personal Review
I wanted to love this movie more. I’m a Bill Murray fan, so I went in with high expectations. The first half was funny, quirky, and had that signature Murray charm. But the second half felt like a completely different movie. The story got muddled, and the humor felt forced. It’s a shame, because the premise was interesting, but the execution just didn’t quite stick the landing. The supporting cast was good, especially Kate Hudson, but the movie as a whole felt like a missed opportunity.

- “Those who enjoy underdog stories with a musical element”

Professional Reviews
- IMDB: “While *Rock the Kasbah* tries to throw several ideas about the Middle East, it has little to rock. Director Barry Levinson never establishes an idea of what kind of movie it wants to be. It wants to be a satire on the music business, but dwells into dark terrorist War drama, while juggling with a coming to acceptance philosophy and fish out of water jokes. It’s a boring mess.
- IMDB: “Misfire comedy with our boy Bill as a has been rock promoter up to his eyeballs in international intrigue as he attempts to comeback with a new performer en route to Afghanistan and instead winds up stranded with little opportunity. Scribe Mitch Glazer and director Barry Levinson half-bake for a M*A*S*H like vibe despite the efforts of a blue-chip cast largely wasted. Disappointing to say the least but hey Bill makes the most of it.
- IMDB: “The story is full of cultural insensitivity, such as Bill Murray’s character touching the local woman’s shoulder to congratulate her success. In addition, he is simply forcing his own views and values onto another culture, violating almost every cultural rule and norm of the local country. His character is offensive in every way. Actually the film is offensive. It’s one thing to break out of chains and realise one’s potential, but it’s another to disregard another culture’s rule and norms to bring about a change that is not necessarily welcomed by the other culture.
