💥 Saw II Reviews

Personal Review

Okay, so I’m a sucker for a good twist, and Saw II definitely delivered. I remember watching it for the first time and being completely blown away by the ending – the whole ‘it was prerecorded’ reveal was genius! I found myself shouting at the TV along with Donnie Wahlberg who went full Marky Mark when realizing that he has been outsmarted. Sure, it’s gory and over the top, but that’s part of the fun. Some of the traps are insane, like the pit of needles, and yeah, the acting is cheesy at times, but I was completely absorbed by the suspense and found myself thinking how I could escape each trap which made me feel like I was also a part of the movie. It’s a rollercoaster of gore and mind games, and I’m here for it.

Professional Reviews

  • Rotten Tomatoes: “While delivering on the gore, Saw II lacks the suspense and cleverness of its predecessor. The plot feels contrived, relying too heavily on shock value rather than genuine thrills. The fast-paced editing and chaotic storytelling detract from any potential depth, leaving viewers with a hollow experience.
  • Bloody Disgusting: “Saw II ups the ante with more elaborate traps and a larger cast. The performances are solid, especially Tobin Bell, who continues to deliver a chilling portrayal of Jigsaw. Although the plot is more convoluted, the twist ending and relentless pacing make it a worthwhile sequel for fans of the franchise.
  • IGN: “Saw II offers a decent continuation of the original’s storyline, but it doesn’t quite reach the same level of suspense. The gore is ramped up, and the traps are more complex. The film’s strength lies in exploring Jigsaw’s philosophy, but the overall execution feels somewhat rushed and predictable.

Audience Reactions

The twist ending was insane and totally unexpected!: Viewers loved the shocking twist ending that changed the perception of the entire movie.

The traps were so creative and brutal!: Many enjoyed the inventive and gruesome traps, finding them both horrifying and entertaining.

Overall Consensus: Saw II is a divisive sequel; fans of the original appreciate its increased gore and twist ending, while others find it lacks the suspense and cleverness of its predecessor.
