💥 The Mummy Reviews

Personal Review

I remember being so hyped for this movie because I love the Brendan Fraser Mummy movies. While this one certainly tried to be different and darker, it just didn’t click for me. The action scenes were okay, but the story felt rushed and didn’t really connect. Also, the romance fell flat, and I just wasn’t invested in the characters. I felt it was a disappointing start for the Dark Universe concept, and I wish they had taken a different approach.

    • “Viewers interested in monster movies with a modern twist”
    • “Those curious about the concept of a shared cinematic universe for classic monsters”
    • “Anyone who likes action-adventure with supernatural elements”
  • Content warnings ⚠:
    • “Intense action violence”
    • “Scary and disturbing images”
    • “Some language and suggestive content”
    • “Thematic elements of ancient curses and demonic possession”

Professional Reviews

  • Rama’s Screen: “The Mummy is a terrible start for the Dark Universe. Tom Cruise is miscast and the jokes fall flat. Sofia Boutella is a marvelous choice. Instead of it being a movie about Sofia Boutella’s The Mummy, it becomes all about Tom Cruise, who as I said earlier is just awfully wrong for this role.
  • Youtube: “This new Mummy is just a wrong-headed disaster. With Tom Cruise, this seems more like it falls into being of one of Cruise’s aging vanity projects than on acting skill. Director Alex Kurtzman is a disaster. The action sequences look haphazardly thrown together, just cartoonish and unbelievable.
  • N/A: “This is a good start for the rebooting of the Universal Dark Universe, if you’re expecting a remake of the 1990’s Mummy films then you’ve got the wrong idea. This time Universal are making these films to link in with all their other monster movies, Frankenstein, Dracula, The Wolfman etc so comparing it with any other Mummy film before it like the critics keep doing is utterly pointless.

Audience Reactions

Some viewers enjoyed Sofia Boutella’s portrayal of the Mummy and found her captivating.: The Mummy received mixed reviews, with some praising the action sequences and performances, while others criticized the story and overall execution.

Overall Consensus: The Mummy (2017) is a divisive film that failed to resonate with many critics and audiences, but it has pockets of fans that found entertainment value in it.
